On Tuesday morning, June 8, two residents of AAHSA member facilities will attend an online town hall meeting on health reform with President Barack Obama and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.  AAHSA is one of about 30 organizations sponsoring the event, which will focus on health reform and seniors.

Around the country, AAHSA members will be holding “watch parties” at which they will watch the town hall meeting online and have the opportunity to call in with questions. The event will be streamed online at Whitehouse.gov. The AAHSA members holding watch parties include Total Long-Term Care in Denver, Provena St. Anne Center in Rockford, Ill., Menorah Park in Beachwood, Ohio, St. Andrews Resources for Seniors i n St. Louis,  Christian Health Care Center in New Jersey, and several others.

This is a great opportunity for AAHSA members to give their residents and clients a chance to learn directly from the president what health reform means to them, and maybe tell the president what they think of this whole thing. It’s not too late to organize a watch party.  All you need is a computer with Internet access and a telephone to call in.  The event will run from 11:25 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.

The teleconference is: 800-837-1935 password: 80272058

If you are planning a watch party, let us know.  Either way, don’t forget to tune in and ask your questions.

At 1:15 this afternoon, President Obama will  host an online town hall where he will talk about health care reform. You can watch the event live by visiting www.HealthReform.gov.

But don’t just watch. You can also participate in online chat. Below is a sample question you can use to make sure long-term services and supports is part of the conversation.  The more of us who participate, the better. I know I’ll add my voice. Will you?

Sample Question:

“The current system for providing long-term services and supports  is fragmented, difficult and expensive. It affects not only people and their families, but also government programs, the medical profession and the economy as a whole. What will you do to help make it more affordable to care?”
