Member Celebrates Memorial Day with Advocacy Activity

Most community celebrate Memorial Day with a barbecue or a parade. Not Masonic Villages in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. While the organization hosted a traditional Memorial Day event with patriotic songs and a veterans’ tribute, they also encouraged their residents to express their gratitude through advocacy.

Approximately 383 residents signed a petition urging their member of Congress and senators to support H.R. 4213.  This bill contains provisions that support Medicaid programs, streamlines the new Medicare payment system and provides essential funding for affordable senior housing, which also encourages job growth in the construction industry.

 Millions of older adults, many of whom are veterans, would benefit from this bill becoming law. And what better way to honor those who served our country than by fighting for programs and services that can help them age dignity and independence? I’m glad Masonic Villages made that connection.

It’s not too late to tell your legislators to support this legislation. Send a letter to your legislators about the bill before they reconvene on June 7. Working together, our collective voice can make a difference.
