Larry Minnix published an op-ed about the CLASS Act in today’s Tampa Tribune. He uses this opportunity to, once again, explain the benefits of a national long-term care insurance program while reinforcing that the Congressional Budget Office has said that the program would be financial sustainable. It’s been great to see the opinion pages picking up on the significance of this new program, that is contained in both the House and Senate health reform bills.
I was surprised to see the Tennessean’s enterprise piece about aging in place fail to mention CLASS at all. The story focused on how people prefer to age at home, and how that can save money. Though the story was extensively reported and offered compellng stories of families struggling to care for people at home, it mentioned only proposed changes to Medicare as how health reform will make a difference.
We continue to have a long way to go to educate America, but I plan to get there one newspaper article at a time.
