Attention elder bloggers:  mark May 1 on your calendars. That’s the official “blog day” for elder economic security.

Sponsored by Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW), hundreds of bloggers from across the country will share their ideas and insights about what our country can do to become a more affordable place to grow old.

Not sure what to write? No problem. WOW’s got resources you can use to get smart on the topic. Check out their Elder Economic Security Standard. It provides an overview of income adequacy for older adults that’s organized by state and county. They also published a list of suggested blog topics to get your creative juices flowing.

You can still participate even if you don’t blog. Visits some elder blogs and share what you think on the topic. WOW published some comment-writing tips you can use too.

In the meantime, I suggest finding out more about this important issue. Did you know that almost a quarter (23%) of women over 65 who live alone are living in poverty? As a person whose 84 year old Grandma lives alone, I feel the need to advocate for those thousands of women like her. I hope you feel the same way.
